Winter is upon us, and with the arrival of colder weather, you may find your fury friend struggling a bit. Signs can be obvious, like a limp or stiffness, especially after lying down; but sometimes it’s a more subtle change in behaviour: sleeping more, reluctance to jump, increased grouchiness with others. Your animal might simply not be themselves.
There are a few options available to your pets.
Foods such as Hills Jr or Royal Canin mobility, or joint supplements like Mobiflex and GCS may assist struggling animals.
Pentosan injections help with regeneration in the joint. After an initial course of weekly injections for four weeks, treatment continues every second week for two treatments then progresses to a monthly maintenance dose. Many dogs have had a great improvement on these injections.
Often a combination of medications will work well. Librela, a monthly injection, it is an anti-nerve growth factor monoclonal antibody, which helps block pain resulting from osteoarthritis in dogs.
If your pet is struggling, book an appointment and one of our vets will help you with what options best suit your pet and pocket.
Keep warm and lots of love.
